Comfort
Psalm 23:1
Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.
Six words, then a conclusion. David does not build an argument. He states a relationship, states what follows from it, and the rest of the psalm is that one sentence unpacked slowly.
Shepherd was not a soft word in the ancient world. It was a job for someone who slept outdoors and fought off animals. When David reaches for it, he is not reaching for a comforting image. He is naming who takes the risk.
The second half is not a promise that you will get everything you want. It is a promise about what you need, made by someone who can see the whole field.
