Struggling with pride
For a heart that bends low enough to learn.

Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,
doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.
Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Lord, I notice it in small ways. I tune out when others talk, I keep score of who gets credit, I quietly think I would have done it better. Everything I have came from you, so what do I have to boast about?
Jesus, you had every right to be proud and you chose to serve. Humble me gently, before life has to do it the hard way, and teach me to be glad when someone else shines. In Jesus' name, Amen.
