I can't put my phone down
For attention, stillness, and the pull of the screen.
Also for phone addiction · screen time · always on my phone · can't stop scrolling · digital detox · notifications · compulsive checking · wasting time online · gaming · youtube · addicted to my phone
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are expedient. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be brought under the power of anything.
Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
A prayer
Original writing, not a quotation of Scripture.
Lord, I reach for my phone before I reach for you. I check it at red lights, in the middle of conversations, and in bed until my eyes hurt. I don't want to be mastered by anything, especially a screen.
Give me self-control, and practical wisdom to set limits I'll actually keep. Help me win back the hours I've been giving away, and spend some of them with you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
