A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.
He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.

Father, you adopted us into your family, and now we want to open our home to a child who needs one. The paperwork is endless and the waiting is hard. Somewhere there is a child we haven't met yet.
Keep them safe. Prepare their heart and ours. Give us patience with the process, wisdom for every decision, and a love ready for whatever history they carry with them.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
