For grace toward the people who test your patience.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
“But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.
Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse.
Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.
He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
A prayer

Jesus, you told me to pray for the people who hurt me, and this is the hardest prayer I've prayed in a long time. I don't feel warm toward them. I'm praying anyway, because you prayed for the people nailing you to a cross.
Bless them. Do good in their life. Change their heart where it needs changing, and change mine too.
Keep me from celebrating if they fall. Leave the justice with you, and give me peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
