A prayer
Original writing, not a quotation of Scripture.
God, I love the person I'm caring for, and I'm running on empty. I can't remember the last time I slept through the night or did something just for me, and then I feel guilty for wanting to. Jethro told Moses the work was too heavy to do alone.
Show me who can share this load, and give me the humility to ask. Renew my strength for tomorrow, and meet me in the moments I feel resentful. In Jesus' name, Amen.
More prayers for caregiver burnout
At 3 a.m.
I'm awake again and so is the worry. Hold the person I'm caring for, God, and hold me. I can't carry tomorrow tonight, so I'm setting it down here. Give me a few hours of real sleep.
When I feel resentful
I snapped at someone I love today and I hate it. I'm tired down to my bones, Father, and some of that tiredness has turned sour. Forgive me, and fill me with something other than guilt.
Asking for help
Jesus, I've been telling everyone I'm fine. Give me the words to tell the truth to one person this week, and show me who could cover an afternoon or sit with me for an hour.
A small rest
God of rest, give me twenty minutes that belong to me today, and let me enjoy them without guilt. You rested on the seventh day, and you aren't asking me to do more than you did.

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good. You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.
Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.
He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.
